PRESS RELEASE
10 November 2016
Trump for President
The Conservative Party of New Zealand congratulates Donald Trump as President elect of the USA.
Whilst we don't necessarily support all the views held by Mr Trump, this campaign has shown that the average US citizen
wants to be heard and is tired of corruption and progressive liberalism. The Conservative voice of the United States has
spoken!
We believe New Zealanders want to be heard as well, and not just at elections. As with Brexit, the US election has shown
once again that the Press is biased and out of touch with reality. Reality is discovered through giving people the
opportunity to have their say, and Binding Referenda is a very effective way of listening and responding. We need to see
our Citizens’ Initiated Referenda made binding on government.
The Greens and Labour supported binding referenda on the Sale of State Assets. The Nats supported it for the flag
referendum, so why can't they allow citizens to have a say on issues that they are passionate about? Binding Citizens’
Initiated Referenda (BCIR) is the Conservative Party’s No. One policy - it is pure democracy at work.
“Kiwis are tired of farcical select committees, manipulated “Conscience” votes, and elected representatives not
representing them,” says Leighton Baker, Party Spokesman. “Give us a voice or give us our money back.”
