ActionStation: TPPA not a Dunne deal
As the US election looms large, the Government is trying to drive the TPPA ratification through it’s final stages in
Parliament with the Committee of the whole House occurring later today.
However, the people-powered campaigning movement, ActionStation, is calling on Peter Dunne to vote against the
undemocratic agreement.
“The TPPA is not a done deal - millions of New Zealanders are opposed to the agreement and Peter Dunne has the power to
listen and vote against the bill at it’s final reading on Thursday” said ActionStation Campaigns Director, Laura
O’Connell Rapira.
For over two years hundreds of thousands of everyday New Zealanders have protested against the deal which would hand
enormous power to foreign multinational corporations, severely impinge on our sovereignty and Te Tirititi o Waitangi
obligations, while not providing a proven benefit to New Zealand’s economy.
“In essence the TPPA is a law that makes it against the law to make laws against multinational corporations”
Independent polling by UMR, crowdfunded by ActionStation members, showed that 62% of New Zealanders either think the
TPPA will be a bad deal for New Zealand or remain unsure of it's benefits.
In order for the TPPA to come into force, the New Zealand government has to pass changes to our laws so that they fall
into line with the TPPA. These changes are contained in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement Amendment Bill.
The second reading of the TPPA Bill passed through Parliament last week with a slim majority of 60 to 59.
ActionStation has set up a tool so people can easily email Peter Dunne before the final reading in Parliament on
Thursday.
“This is our final opportunity to stop this legislation in it’s tracks. It’s time Peter Dunne listens to New Zealanders
