A Week of Peace action will challenge those who profit from and glorify war.
Auckland Peace Action is organising the Week of Peace from 13-20 November in Auckland in response to the Weapons Expo
and navy warships visit.
“The Week of Peace is an opportunity for people to actively work to stop war. We have a human blockade of the Weapons
Expo planned, and an on-water flotilla to protest the arrival of the warships into Waitematā Harbour,” said Auckland
Peace Action spokesperson, Virginia Lambert.
People from around the country, including veteran activists and a new generation of people opposed to war, will come to
Auckland to be part of the activities, said Ms Lambert.
“At the beginning of the Week of Peace, we will be conducting training for people wanting to be involved in the actions
to give them a background in non-violent direct action.”
“The blockade will happen on the opening morning of the Weapons Expo, and the flotilla is timed for the arrival of the
warships into the Harbour.”
“The visit of Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Dr Helen Caldicott, the world’s foremest anti-nuclear activist and researcher,
is also part of the Week of Peace actions. We are thrilled and honoured to have her here because she brings passion and
knowledge to the cause of peace and disarmament.”
The Week of Peace is a chance for New Zealanders to show that we will not tolerate the glorification of war, nor welcome
those who profit from it. We want to work for peace, not prepare for and fund wars.
