PSA presents Equal Pay petition to parliament
When: Today, 10.00 - 10.20
Where: Select Committee room 1, Bowen House
What: PSA submits to Transport and Industrial Select Committee on Equal Pay petition
Earlier this year, 10,000 New Zealanders signed a petition calling on Cabinet to accept the recommendations of the Joint Working Group on Equal Pay Principles.
Unions, business groups and representatives of the Crown agreed the Principles, and the Cabinet has had them since May, but there has still been no response.
This morning the Public Service Association Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi will present its submission on the petition to MPs and urge the government once again to take action.
The PSA’s delegation includes National Secretary Erin Polaczuk and President Janet Quigley.
"Employees across New Zealand are being systematically underpaid and undervalued because they do jobs that are traditionally considered women’s work," Ms Polaczuk says.
"That means they have less money to feed their families, save for their retirement and spend in their communities.
"Everyone will win if the government adopts the recommendations of the Joint Working Group, and the petition proves they have widespread support."
