celebrate the success of the firm’s Fundraising
Month.
Throughout September, more than 300 MinterEllisonRuddWatts staff competed in teams to raise much needed funds for Women’s Refuge New Zealand. The final amount raised was an incredible $44,156.82, all of which will go to supporting women and children coping with family violence.
The firm chose the Women’s Refuge as the 2016 charity because family violence is a serious issue for New Zealand and while recent law reforms provide greater protection, there is still a need for comprehensive support for victims.
Fundraising initiatives ranged from auctioning off items on Trade Me, including luxury holidays in Queenstown, motorhome experiences and signed Warriors jerseys, a Quiz Night with clients and staff, to traditional bake sales and raffles.
MinterEllisonRuddWatts Partner and the firm’s Wellington Community Investment Group leader, Stacey Shortall is delighted at the result for this worthy cause.
"We’re thrilled at the result of our second Fundraising Month initiative, and we’re pleased to offer much needed support to Women’s Refuge who give hope to women and children seeking to rebuild their lives after coping with family violence," says Stacey Shortall.
"Domestic violence is a pervasive and devastating issue that impacts thousands of New Zealanders with serious and long lasting effects. It’s important for those affected to know that people care and are willing to help, and with one in three Kiwi women facing this issue, the Women’s Refuge needs every bit of help we can give."
Women’s Refuge is an organisation for women and their children, dedicated to helping prevent and stopping family violence in New Zealand. The organisation provides invaluable advice and support including advocacy, training and guidance to start a safe, new life.
Women’s Refuge Chief Executive Dr Ang Jury applauds MinterEllisonRuddWatts’ initiative and effort to support Kiwi women and children.
"We are so very grateful to MinterEllisonRuddWatts for the efforts their staff put in during their fundraising month in September. Funds raised will go a long way to supporting wahine and tamariki experiencing domestic and family violence. This was a phenomenal effort and we thank you," says Dr Ang Jury.
There are more than 81,000 calls to the Women’s Refuge Crisis Line each year, and on average, every night more than 200 women and children need a safe place to sleep.
