Councillors congratulated, now for hard work

Wellington Chamber of Commerce congratulates city councillors and regional councillors on their swearing-in today.

“This is a big day for them and for the city and region because this is when the campaign euphoria wears off and the hard work begins,” says Chief Executive John Milford.

“There’s a good mix of experience on both councils which I’m sure will serve the city and the region well. There are a lot of challenges ahead, and we are expecting big things.

“Promises have been made about taking the city and the region forward and we eagerly await further detail and delivery.

“As the Chamber outlined in our local government election manifesto, there’s plenty to be done - urgent infrastructure is needed, especially in the area of transport. We need to be making progress across the board on economic development and growth and we need to ensure ratepayer money is spent to best effect.

“These are the fundamentals, and we look forward to both councils picking up these issues and getting on with the work ahead.”
