Seymour Unambitious in Call for Tax Cuts
Seymour Unambitious in Call for One-Third of Surplus for
Tax Cuts
18 OCTOBER 2016
The Taxpayers’
Union is calling on ACT Party leader David Seymour to
stick to his classical liberal principles and fight for
meaningful tax relief prior to next year's general election
to recognise that Kiwi households are better at spending
their money than politicians in Wellington.
Executive
Director of the Taxpayers’ Union, Jordan Williams,
says:
“Centre-right voters will be astonished that the
ACT Party, meant to be holding the National Government to
the economic benefits of limited government, is conceding
that only one-third of the $1.8 billion surplus should be
used for tax cuts, with another third for even more
government spending."
"The problem with the government isn't that it doesn't have enough of our money to spend - it is the quality of that current spending. If money was moved from low-quality programmes to health, education and things that matter, every cent of the surplus could be used to ease the tax burden."
"The ACT Party should be fighting Steven Joyce's billion dollar regime of corporate welfare, and comparing Bill English's $10.3 billion in new spending since 2008 to the measly $415 million the current Government has ever delivered in tax cuts."
The Taxpayers' Union will be delivering this handy infographic to Mr Seymour's office shortly - so that he is reminded the extent to which this Government considers it spends money better than the taxpayers who earned it:
