TAURANGA MOANA, October 17
More than 300 people from across Aotearoa New Zealand attended this year's National Māori Housing Conference hosted by
Tauranga Moana for three days from Thursday, September 29 to Saturday, October 1.
‘Collaboration and Strategic Relationships’ was the theme of this year's conference. Delegates were inspired by the
local, regional and international stories of successful housing initiatives and provided valuable feedback to the
strategic workshop sessions designed to develop effective strategies to achieve better housing outcomes for Māori. The
conference report will record the significant outcomes of the conference and recommendations, which will then be
formally presented to Ministers and agencies involved in housing.
The Tauranga Moana National Māori Housing Organising Committee would like to acknowledge those who participated in the
conference - the delegates, keynote speakers and facilitators - who shared their vision, experiences and knowledge in
housing. Speaker presentations will be available on the website, www.maorihousingconference.nz, soon.
The committee would also like to acknowledge the sponsors - Te Puni Kokiri, Mangatawa Papamoa Blocks Inc, Western Bay of
Plenty District Council, Babbage, Boffa Miskell, Tauranga City Council, Travois, Stratum Consultants, Holland Beckett,
Papakainga Solutions Ltd, Bay of Plenty Regional Council, ABC Homes, Signature Homes, The Property Group, Community
Housing Aotearoa, Modcom Buildings and the National Science Challenges.
The next conference will be hosted by Waikato Tainui in 2018 and we wish them well in their planning and preparations
for a great event – mā whero, mā pango ka oti ai te mahi!
