The PSA pays tribute to Helen Kelly
Members and staff from the Public Service Association Te Pūkenga Here Tikanga Mahi are mourning the passing of Helen
Kelly, former president of the Council of Trade Unions, who died earlier today.
"Helen was a towering figure in the union movement both here and internationally - and an inspiration to all New
Zealanders," PSA National Secretaries Glenn Barclay and Erin Polaczuk said.
"Many of us at the PSA were lucky enough to count her as a friend.
"The grace and courage she showed in the face of her diagnosis and the bravery with which she fought were humbling.
"To the very end, she was campaigning for the causes she believed in - and thinking about how the union movement would
continue to survive and thrive after she was no longer here to champion it.
"The PSA grieves along with Helen’s whanau and all those who knew her.
"But we also celebrate her life today: the values she believed in so fiercely and the bravery with which she stood up
for them.
"The best tribute we can pay to her is to continue to fight for a better life for New Zealand workers, now and in the
future."
