Crime increase entirely predictable and preventable – SST

The Sensible Sentencing Trust says the latest increase in crime is confirmation that shifting the goal posts is no substitute for catching and prosecuting criminals.
Trust Founder, Garth McVicar was commenting after the official crime statistics for the year ending August were released
today, and showed 12,529 more victims than the year before.
The increase equates to a 4.8 per cent rise in crime.
McVicar said the increase in crime was clear evidence that the only way to beat crime is more police on the beat to
catch criminals and ensure the system was robust in prosecuting and holding offenders to account.
“There have been all sorts of devious manipulations going on within the system to try to fabricate the figures but
ultimately the truth has come out.”
“The numerous attempts to make the figures look good such as various alternative actions, diversion and plea bargains
have all failed to stop the criminal onslaught.”
McVicar said the latest plan to increase the age of the Youth Court was, in his opinion, also doomed to failure.
“Increasing the age of the Youth Court will not stop the hard core young offender born into and raised in a
dysfunctional environment.”
“Rather than trying to manipulate the figures the Government should be incentivising families to raise their children to
be good law abiding contributing members of society.”
“Public safety must be paramount.”
