Human Rights Commission vehemently denies allegations
The Human Rights Commission confirmed today that lawyers representing Auckland woman Julia Sloane have written alleging that the Race Relations Commissioner has defamed her,” said Human Rights Commission spokeswoman, Christine Ammunson.
“The Human Rights Commission vehemently denies Ms Sloane’s allegations.”
“We regularly comment on issues already in the public domain whether they be relating to a politician’s speech, a rugby game or a reality TV show.”
The Commission’s “That’s Us” anti-racism campaign has been in development since late 2014 and publicly launched on the 1 September 2016 at the 12th Annual New Zealand Diversity Forum in Wellington. So far hundreds of New Zealanders have shared their personal stories of racial intolerance.
Our campaign was not launched in response to Ms Sloane’s comments that were broadcast on the reality TV show, said Ms Ammunson.
“We have no further comment to make at this point ”
