State Services Commissioner backs MPI response
State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes is backing Director-General of the Ministry for Primary Industries Martyn Dunne in his response to an independent review into fisheries compliance.
Mr Dunne has released the report of an independent review into three fisheries compliance operations, including the prosecution decisions for each. The investigation was carried out by former Solicitor-General, Mr Michael Heron QC.
“Mr Heron’s report highlights some serious issues that need to be addressed promptly,” Mr Hughes said.
“Mr Dunne is very focused on doing this, and is personally leading the Ministry’s effort,” he said. “That is the right thing to do here”.
“When concerns were raised he commissioned an independent reviewer to look into the matter and report back to him on what happened,” said Mr Hughes.
“Mr Dunne has fully accepted the findings of the review and has a substantial programme of work underway in response,” he said.
“He has done everything I would expect a Public Service Chief Executive to do in a situation like this,” Mr Hughes said.
