Rainey backed by young entrepreneur

Nelson city councillor and mayoral candidate Pete Rainey has announced the second nominator for his mayoral bid is young Nelson entrepreneur Chloe Van Dyke, owner of the award winning business Chia Ltd.

Ms Van Dyke said Rainey’s enthusiasm and leadership ability as Mayor would make a real difference to Nelson.

“Pete’s policies to improve public spaces like the Haven Precinct and his support for the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary will bring people together to enjoy what Nelson is known for,” she said. “The importance he places on council doing more about warm homes and giving more support to the community sector, I see as essential to make Nelson a more unified city for us all. It’s really important young people enrol now, and make their vote count.”

Rainey said he was thrilled to have two of Nelson’s most innovative business people backing him, having announced Pic Picot or Pic’s Really Good Peanut Butter, as his first nominator last week.

“I’m the father of two sons and I really want to see Nelson get over this belief that young people have to leave town to make their future,” he said. “Chloe demonstrates that with a great idea and hard work you can build up a successful business - I look forward to leading a council that will help to make this happen for a lot more young Nelsonian
