It is indeed very sad to hear the news of the passing
away of a respectable elder of Pakistan Honourable Abdul
Sattar Edhi.
"Inna Lillahi Wa Innal Illayhi Raji'un"
(Surely We Belong To Allah and to Him We Shall Return).
On behalf of the International Muslim Association of New
Zealand (IMAN) and the Muslims of the Wellington Region and
New Zealand, I wish to express my deepest hearftelt
condolence to all Muslims specially the Pakistani community
in New
Zealand and abroad.
Honourable Mr Edhi was the
Founder of the Edhi Foundation, an Non-Profit organisation
which has been providing social
services to the poor and
needy Pakistanis. In view of his social service to the
community, Honourable Mr Edhi is a very
simple and humble
man dedicating his life to social service. "The man is
often referred as Pakistan's Mother Teresa" said
Mr
Nawaz.
The Edhi Foundation was founded in 1951 which
provides 24-hour emergency assistance across Pakistan and
abroad.
Among a variety of services, the Foundation also
provide shelter for the destitute, free hospitals and
medical care, drug
rehabilitation services and national
and international relief efforts. Its main focus are
emergency services, operating
orphanages, home for the
handicapped persons, providing shelters, International
Community Centres, Blood and Drug
Bank, Air Ambulance
Services, Marine and Coastal Services.
"Honourable Mr Edhi
have been one of my besg motivator in my life when it comes
to community and social services",
said Mr Nawaz.
Mr
Tahir Nawaz is the present President of the International
Muslim Association of New Zealand (IMAN). He is also
the
Vice President of the Federation of Islamic
Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ), the national umbrella
Muslim organisation
for the Muslims of New Zealand.
