Aviation security unions agree to mediation in industrial dispute

Aviation security unions will take part in last-minute talks to resolve their industrial dispute, but the Public Service Association and E Tū say strike action will still go ahead unless a deal is reached.

The PSA and E Tū have agreed to attend mediation proposed by the Ministry of Business, Employment and Innovation in terms of the Employment Relations Act.
Both unions say strike notices for the industrial action later this month will remain in place.

"We are happy to attend mediation with the Aviation Security Service, because what all parties ultimately want is to settle this dispute," E Tū head of Aviation Kelvin Ellis says.

The PSA and E Tū will meet MBIE mediators and AvSec on July 15.

"We’re hopeful AvSec will be able to bring an offer to the table which will resolve this stalemate," PSA National Secretary Glenn Barclay says.
