Andrew McKenzie appointed as new CEO of Housing New Zealand

After an extensive international and New Zealand wide search for a new Chief Executive Officer, Housing New Zealand has today announced the appointment of Andrew McKenzie to the role.

Board Chair, Adrienne Young-Cooper, says the Board is delighted that the person with the right skill set and personal capability to lead Housing New Zealand was found locally.

“Andrew McKenzie has an outstanding career to date in the public and private sectors leading the financial function for the establishment of Auckland Council and currently holding the role of General Manager Finance at Fletcher Construction. Andrew impressed the board with his wide ranging executive experience, his social motivation and appreciation of the diversity of people in our workplace and our customers, and his very strong financial and business acumen.

“He comes to us with extensive experience in organisational improvement and managing change to build sustainable businesses. At Auckland Council, he contributed to the successful amalgamation of eight Councils and over 30 subsidiaries in 2010. In 2013 Andrew was recognised as CFO of the Year for New Zealand.

“Housing New Zealand has been working to reposition itself with respect to the Government’s social housing reform initiative. That includes our major multi-year, multi- billion dollar investment programme to deliver quality social housing, with particular emphasis in Auckland. Andrew’s skills and experience fits well with what we need to lead us into this new era,” says Mrs Young Cooper.

Andrew will commence the role in September.
