Sensible Sentencing Congratulates Police On Massive Drug Bust

“This massive drug bust just goes to show what an incredibly dedicated police force New Zealand has and just how
committed the police are to exterminating this drug in its entirety ” Guthrie.
On Sunday morning police found an abandoned boat on 90 Mile Beach with a number of bags of Methamphetamine on it. Police
say it's without doubt the biggest bust in New Zealand's history.
Three men appeared in Kaitaia District Court on Tuesday morning, jointly charged with importing Class A drugs and
possession for supply of a Class A drug, namely methamphetamine. They were granted name suppression and have been
remanded in custody.
“The problem is getting worse. The police should be being supported and adequately resourced not having their resources
reduced.” Guthrie
"Greg O'Connor was bang on when he warned 15 years ago of the potential harm this terrible drug would have on our
communities if it was not stopped back then. It is a pity our politicians didn't listen then. I hope someone is
listening now. This problem is now costing our people and our country dearly."

Guthrie said, “This latest bust outstrips the combined total of all methamphetamine seizures across the country last
year with almost $220 million worth of the drug intercepted in 2015 but the pressure and support from the government
must increase and remain rampant if we are to see a reduction of this drug in New Zealand. This is what can be achieved
when the public and police work in unison. We applaud all concerned.”
