IHC Congratulates Robert Martin on UN Committee Election
IHC congratulates Robert Martin on his election to the United Nations Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Robert is the first person with an intellectual disability to be elected to serve on such a committee – however he is no stranger to the UN.
Robert has spoken at the UN and all over the world about his experience of growing up with a disability, including time in institutions.
“This is a fantastic achievement for Robert and for all the great people who have supported him,” says IHC Chief Executive, Ralph Jones.
“To have Robert at the UN is a coup for New Zealand and for people with an intellectual disability.
“We know he’ll use his unique perspective to raise awareness of the capability of people with intellectual disabilities on the international stage – as he has done so successfully in the past.
“Congratulations Robert.”
