Q+A: Labour's Finance Spokesperson Grant Robertson interviewed by Corin Dann
Labour’s Finance spokesperson Grant Robertson told TV One’s Q+A programme that his party wants to see the whole tax system shift from a focus on incentivising speculation to incentivising investment in the productive economy.
CORIN: So negative gearing is in your sights?
GRANT: Michael Cullen as far back as 2007 was talking about this. It’s been in our policy. We want to look at a broad range of measures to say, ‘How do we ensure we move from an incentive
to speculate to an incentive to invest in the productive economy?’
CORIN Here’s an easy one. Would you push out the bright line test, say, to five years?
GRANT That’s one of the options. I mean, Treasury recommended that. Treasury said to the Government, ‘Why are you doing a two-year bright line test? It’ll be easier to get around’. A five-year one could be one we look at.
Q+A, 9-10am Sundays on TV ONE and one hour later on TV ONE plus 1. Repeated Sunday evening at 11:35pm. Streamed live atwww.tvnz.co.nz
