PSA welcomes Peter Hughes as new State Services Commissioner

The Public Service Association welcomes the appointment of Peter Hughes as the next State Services Commissioner and Head of State Services.

The Prime Minister has today confirmed Mr Hughes will take up the role in 4 July 2016 for a five-year term, replacing the outgoing Commissioner Iain Rennie.

"Peter Hughes has been an effective Chief Executive and Secretary for Education, and has spent his working life in the public service," PSA National Secretary Glenn Barclay says.

"We have worked well with him in the past and look forward to carrying on doing so in his new role.

"He is well-placed to understand the crucial role the public services play in New Zealanders’ lives.

"He will also appreciate how much our members love their jobs, and the commitment they have to doing an excellent job every day."
