New Zealand Post birthday stamps fit for a Queen

New Zealand Post is celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday with a special series of stamps and a limited edition silver coin.

The Queen was born on 21 April 1926. To mark her birthday, New Zealand Post has produced ‘lenticular’ or moving stamps that feature nine different images of the Queen on just three stamps.

“We wanted to produce something different for this very special 90th birthday. Queen Elizabeth II is the first British Monarch to reach this impressive milestone, and the stamps and coins are a beautiful keepsake for the occasion,” says Simon Allison, New Zealand Post Head of Stamps and Coins.

“Simply tilt the stamps to watch the images change, from the Queen’s christening in 1926 right through to her attending Anzac Day Centenary commemorations in London in 2015,” says Simon Allison.

As well as the stamps, New Zealand Post is issuing a 1oz silver coin featuring the Queen at her christening. The Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother) are pictured with their daughter (later Queen Elizabeth II) as she sleeps in a precious christening robe.

“The photo has been printed using a minted photo image technique giving it an authentic photographic look from days gone by,” says Simon Allison. “This limited edition coin will be popular and stocks won’t last long.”

The stamps and coin can be pre-ordered online at www.nzpost.co.nz/stamps and will be on sale in PostShops from 4 May 2016.
