Michael Wood Announces Nomination for Mt Roskill

At a meeting of supporters and local party members this afternoon, Michael Wood announced that he is nominating to be the Labour candidate for Mt Roskill.

"Mt Roskill is my home, it is the place I love. This community has given my family our start in life, and I am standing for the Labour nomination to ensure that it has a strong voice in parliament", says Michael Wood.

"I have served the community on the Local Board for the past six years and believe that I have the understanding of Mt Roskill at the grassroots level to win the trust of local residents, and to continue our proud local history of principled and competent Labour representation"

"In particular I pay tribute to Phil Goff, who has served the Mt Roskill community since 1981. He is a mentor and a friend, and his able representation of Mt Roskill is a demonstration of the outstanding job he would do if elected Mayor in October"

"Mt Roskill has always been a place that people have come to get a start in life, but increasingly there are challenges. I will be seeking the nomination, and then campaigning for the seat, on a platform of ensuring that barriers to real opportunity, such as the current lack of quality, affordable housing, are knocked down"

"The Labour selection in early June will enable local party members to democratically choose their candidate and I look forward to seeking their support over the coming period", says Wood.
