Environment Commissioner welcomes nationally consistent 1080 rules
The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment Dr Jan Wright has welcomed the Government’s response to one of her key recommendations on the management of 1080.
Today, the Minister for the Environment released a consultation document titled Streamlining the regulatory regime for pest control.
“I am very pleased to see that the Government is proposing to make the regulations that control 1080 use consistent across the country, said Dr Wright.
The Commissioner highlighted the enormous damage done by possums, rats, and stoats to native animals and plants in her 2011 report ‘Evaluating the use of 1080: Predators, poisons and silent forests.’
