Government Support for Helen Clark as Secretary General of United Nations Questioned

Right to Life believes that the government’s nomination of Helen Clark as Secretary General of the United Nations is not in the interest of women, the family and the common good. Helen Clark in her influential position as Director of the UN Development Programme since 2009 has remained silent in the face of the human rights abuses that have been inflicted by the Chinese government on Chinese women with the previous ‘one child family policy.’

These are crimes against humanity and are violation of the United Nations Conventions that Helen Clark is pledged to uphold, namely the Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention for the Elimination of all Discrimination against Women, [CEDAW], and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, [CRC]. It is of note that from 1993 that she has been a member of the UN Committee monitoring compliance with CEDAW. As Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1999 to 2008 she shamefully turned her back on the most horrendous human rights abuses against women that the world has ever known.

The draconian and tyrannical one child family policy now extended to two children from 1 January 2016, denies the human right of families to choose how many children they are going to have. A family is required to obtain a permit authorising the birth of a child. Pregnancies that are not authorised are required by law to be aborted. Women who are not married who become pregnant, are required to have an abortion. Children who escape being aborted and are born without a permit are not recognised by the state and are denied health services and an education.

Helen Clark is at the forefront of the United Nations drive to promote worldwide contraception, sterilisation and abortion.

China’s one child family policy started in 1979 and has resulted in forced abortions, 196 million compulsory sterilisations, the mandatory insertion of 403 million forced intrauterine devices, punitive fines, imprisonment, destruction of homes and loss of employment. Sex selection abortions have resulted in 37 million missing girls. Since 1971 there have been 330 million abortions, many of these on orders from the state. There is as a consequence, a surplus of 36 million men in China. Helen Clark’s response to these human rights abuses is a deafening silence.

The New Zealand government shamefully, under both Helen Clark and John Key claimed that it has no policy on these crimes against humanity and turned its back on these human rights abuses perpetrated by the Chinese government which is guilty of the most horrendous human rights abuses against women that the world has ever known.

Helen Clark is at the forefront of the United Nations drive to promote worldwide contraception sterilisation and abortion. She supports legislation to promote euthanasia and prostitution. In 2003 she was instrumental in enforcing all Labour MP’s to vote for the controversial Prostitution Reform Act. (With the exception of one MP being allowed to abstain.) This Act violates the human rights of women by giving men the legal right to sexually assault women.
