UN Youth NZ endorses Helen Clark’s bid for United Nations Secretary-General
(Wellington) April 5th, 2016 – The United Nations Youth Association of New Zealand (UN Youth New Zealand) is proud to
endorse Helen Clark for the Secretary-General of the United Nations. Clark has been a strong advocate for civics
education, helping create and provide opportunities for New Zealand’s young people to engage with the international
community and develop the skills to become global citizens. She has proven leadership experience both domestically and
internationally, and is a strong role model for young people around the world.
UN Youth New Zealand National President Bhenjamin Goodsir said: “Helen is an ally for the youth development movement,
and we are grateful for the relationship that she has with our organisation and many others, both in New Zealand and
globally. She is evidence that being from a small country is not a barrier to changing the world, and every one of us
can make the world a better place.”
New Zealand has a long history of contributing to the United Nations, and Helen Clark’s bid coincides well with New
Zealand’s position on the Security Council. This is a good time to raise awareness of the work that New Zealand is doing
in the United Nations, and to create a sense of pride amongst all New Zealanders.
UN Youth New Zealand believes that Helen Clark is the best candidate for the job, and is delighted to fully endorse and
support her bid and her campaign.
