Council will relocate 150 staff from the Fitzherbert Street administration building into temporary offices at 39 Gladstone Road and the Emerald building while the administration building is being rebuilt.
All staff are set to relocate from Fitzherbert Street during the month of May, with customer services closing at Fitzherbert Street from 5pm on Friday 27 Mayand re-opening at 39 Gladstone Road on Monday 30 May.
Council Chief Executive, Judy Campbell says, “Operating hours will remain the same, services will remain the same, we’ll just be in a different building.”
“Between 70 and 100 people also visit our customer service desk every day,” says Ms Campbell
Although customer services is moving to the main street, it will still be easily accessible
“We have time restricted parking outside the current council building and so we’re proposing some changes to parking in the river-end block to make it easier for people coming in to see us for payments or information.”
“We’re proposing to remove the pay parking and create 17 time restricted parks available along Gladstone Road, between Lowe Street and Reads Quay.”
Five will be 30 minute parking spots available for people who are in and out with payments or picking up information and the remainder will be 60 minute free parking including two mobility parks.
Council staff have met with Heart of Gisborne and affected businesses to discuss the changes and what they will mean to them. Almost all have responded positively.
From May 19, Council meetings will be held temporarily at the Cosmopolitan club, with the possibility of future Council meetings happening throughout the community.
The Fitzherbert Street offices will be demolished and rebuilt on the same site from July.
The parking schedule change is approved and goes to public consultation from March 29 via Council’s website or Facebook.
