Loose Lips Shouldn't Land on Taxpayers

The Taxpayers’ Union is calling on the Speaker not to approve the use of taxpayer money to defend and settle the defamation claim made against the Prime Minister in relation to comments concerning Bradley Ambrose and 2011 ’teapot-tape’ recording. Jordan Williams, Executive Director of the Taxpayers’ Union, says:

“Many professionals obtain liability insurance for occasions where public comments may lead to defamation proceedings. It’s not unreasonable to expect MPs to pay for this themselves, if they so choose. Why should politicians enjoy, and the taxpayer pay for, protection from loose lips?”
