Enforcement summaries from 2014-15 zone reports:
Kaikōura - 3 abatement notices issued, 2 for discharge of odour, 1 for discharge of contaminants to land. One infringement notice issued for rubbish in a riverbed.
Hurunui-Waiau - 6 abatement notices, 3 for discharge of contaminants to land, 1 for works in a waterway, 1 for damming and diverting a waterway and 1 for a bore.
Waimakariri - 16 abatement notices, 7 for works in waterways, 3 for discharge of dairy effluent, 3 bores, 2 for discharge of odour and 1 for discharge of contaminants to land. Two infringement notices for burning waste. One prosecution concluded for excavating material from the bed of a river.
Selwyn-Waihora - 16 abatement notices, 8 for discharge of contaminants to land, 3 for discharge of dairy effluent, 2 for discharge of odours, 1 land use, 1 bore and 1 for damming and diverting a waterway. Four infringement notices, 2 for contravention of abatement notices, 1 for burning waste and 1 for stock in waterways. One prosecution (informations laid) for disposal of mixed demolition waste on to land.
Christchurch-West Melton - 10 abatement notices, 3 for discharge of odour, 3 for taking too much water, 2 for land use and 2 for discharge of contaminants to water. Thirteen infringement notices, 4 for discharge of odour, 3 for outdoor residential fires, 3 for discharge of contaminants to land, 1 for discharge of sediment to water and 1 for disposal of earthquake waste. One prosecution concluded for dumping of earthquake demolition waste.
Banks Peninsula - 5 abatement notices, 3 for taking too much water and 2 for discharge of odour. One infringement notice for discharge of odour. Two prosecutions; charges laid for discharge of contaminants to water, and prosecution concluded for discharge of contaminants to a waterway.
Ashburton - 8 abatement notices, 5 related to dairy effluent discharges, 1 for land use, 1 for taking too much water and 1 for stock in waterways. Nine infringement notices, 2 for contravention of abatement notices, 2 for discharge of dairy effluent, 3 for flood protection works and 2 for taking too much water.
Upper Waitaki - 2 abatement notices, both for discharge of contaminants to land.
Lower Waitaki - 4 abatement notices, 3 for discharges of dairy effluent and 1 for discharge of contaminants to land.
Orari-Temuka-Opihi-Pareora – 11 abatement notices, 4 for discharge of odour, 3 for bores, 2 for discharge of dairy effluent, 1 for works in waterways and 1 for discharge of contaminants to land.
All other non-compliances have been or are being resolved through increased site visits, advice, education and/or the involvement of industry partners.
