Waitangi Tribunal Report on Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993
Waitangi Tribunal releases its report on the Crown’s proposed reform of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993
In its report released today [Friday 11/3], the Waitangi Tribunal has adjudged three claims concerning the Crown’s review and reform of Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 to be well-founded in certain respects.
The Tribunal granted an urgent hearing last year, which was held over four days in November and December 2015.
The present report constitutes the Tribunal’s full findings on the claims and supersedes the draft chapter it released in early February 2016 to assist the parties in advance of a series of informational hui held by the Crown during that month.
The Tribunal’s findings and recommendations are summarised in chapter 5 of its report.
