A Bill of Opportunities
Te Māngai Pāho commends the progress that the Māori Language Bill has made. Board Chair Professor Piri Sciascia ONZM said “We are excited by the opportunities that the Bill presents.”
With the second reading of the Bill in Parliament on Wednesday night, Te Māngai Pāho’s Board and staff convened to consider the implications of the Bill on the governance and management of the organisation in the new environment.
Prof Sciascia said “ I am impressed by Minister Flavell’s ability to consult and improve the Bill and acknowledge the contribution of his Māori Language Advisory Group chaired by Professor Rawinia Higgins.
I thoroughly enjoyed our planning session on the eve of the Bill’s second reading and feel confident that we have the capacity and capability to implement quickly our responsibilities as envisaged under the new Māori Language Bill.”
