PSA relieved at guilty verdict in Ashburton Work and Income murder case

The Public Service Association says its members will be relieved to hear Russell John Tully has been found guilty of the
murder of two women at the Ashburton Work and Income office in 2014.
After six hours, the jury at the High Court in Christchurch found Mr Tully guilty of murdering Leigh Cleveland and Peggy
Noble, and guilty of the attempted murder of Kim Adams.
He was found not guilty on a further charge of attempting to murder Lindy Curtis.
The PSA’s National Secretary Glenn Barclay says it’s a sobering day for the union and its members, particularly those at
the Work and Income office in Ashburton.
"This was a shocking and cowardly attack which resulted in the deaths of two respected employees and injuries to a
number of others.
"Today’s verdict won’t bring back the people who’ve been lost through this terrible tragedy, but it will help their
families, friends and colleagues come to terms with what happened.
"The PSA’s supported its members throughout, and we’d invite any member who’s been affected by today’s verdict to come
to us for support.
"All workers have the right to carry out their jobs in safety without fear of their lives, and we believe the High Court
has acknowledged that right today."
Mr Tully will be sentenced at a later date.
