Public confidence in Customs high
New Zealand Customs has been rated highly by the public in the inaugural Colmar Brunton Public Sector Reputation Index.
The Index identified Customs as outperforming other agencies on the trust pillar – particularly on trustworthiness, responsible use of taxpayer money, and providing effective services. Customs rated second overall in the public rankings for 2015/2016.
Comptroller of Customs, Carolyn Tremain says this is a fantastic result that shows how well respected Customs is.
“The Index result highlights the importance of the role Customs performs at the border, and how many people we reach in the community.
“We also rated highly as a successful and well run organisation, which is a reflection of the quality of our services and how well thought of we are.
“Our brand is highly visible at all New Zealand international airports and ports and this result emphasises the importance of our border security work and role Customs plays in facilitating legitimate trade and travel.
“I’m immensely proud of the work of our officers at the border — they ensure our borders are secure while providing a genuine welcome to New Zealand.
“We are committed to continuous improvement and work closely with other agencies to identify opportunities to improve the passenger experience at our airports.
“In our day-to-day operations we focus on providing advice and assisting traders to comply, benefit from Free Trade Agreements, and reduce supply chain barriers. Building these relationships strengthens our trust.”
The Colmar Brunton Public Sector Reputation Index is based on the global RepZ framework, developed by Colmar Brunton’s parent company, Millward Brown, and used in 40 countries. RepZ measures each entity’s reputation is indexed against the others.
