Level 1 Water Restrictions Start This Weekend

Level 1 Water Restrictions Start This Weekend

Palmerston North City Council would like to notify residents that Level 1 water restrictions will take effect from Saturday, 20 February 2016.

Restrictions will apply to Palmerston North City, Linton, Ashhurst, Longburn and Bunnythorpe supplies.

“We need to conserve water by avoiding unnecessary outdoor water use and wastage,” Dora Luo, Water Asset Engineer said. “The water level in the Turitea Dam has been dropping steadily due to the constant high water demand with the high temperatures. The recent rain will help dam recovery in the short term but needs to be supported by reductions in demand.”

A Level One restriction means garden sprinklers and unattended water devices are only permitted to be used during the hours of 7pm to 9pm on alternate days as follows:

• Houses with even street numbers on even dates.
• Houses with odd street numbers on odd dates.
• Attended hand held hoses may be used at any time during your allocated day.

“We hope introducing Level 1 restrictions at this stage may reduce the need for more severe restrictions later in the season,” Dora said.
