26 for Babies calls for change to paid parental leave
26 for Babies is calling for a change to Sue Moroney’s paid parental leave bill in its submission to parliament today.
“Our message is simple. Change the implementation dates to give babies at home four more weeks at home with their family
next year, and another four weeks in 2018,” said coalition spokesperson Rebecca Matthews-Heron.
“That would take us to the important six month mark and give families certainty. It would show that parliament is
committed to a planned approach of improvement for our newborn babies.”
Matthews-Heron said that the amendment would both deliver on the objectives of Labour MP Sue Moroney‘s bill, and be
consistent with the increases to paid parental leave initiated by the National led government.
Government has already announced spending forecasts for the next three budgets that can easily accommodate a small
adjustment for increasing paid parental leave.
26 for Babies will be giving their submission to the Select Committee on Wednesday 17 February, from 11.10-11.30am in
Select Committee Room 5.
