SST Slams Judge for Going Soft on Sexual Abuse Mother

Section 128B (2) of the crimes Act 1961 states that A person convicted of sexual violation must be sentenced to imprisonment unless, the court thinks that the person should not be sentenced to imprisonment.

Sensible Sentencing Trust’s Manawatu Spokesperson Scott Guthrie has labelled the sentencing of a 23 year old mother for sexually violating her 1 year old son for monetary gain as gutless, weak and unrealistic.

Krystal Harvey, 23, was sentenced to eight months home detention after admitting to sexually violating her 1-year-old son and producing a 1 minute-long video of her preforming the act for a paedophile for money.

Judge Phil Recordon said, and I quote, “the breach of trust was at the highest level a mother could be involved with" and yet went on to ignore the sentences available to him in their entirety.

This so called Judge had a mandatory jail term as a starting point for sentencing but chose to side with the offender and feel sorry for her by imposing a home detention sentence instead. Never mind the damage to the victim or the victim’s family let’s make sure this obviously psychotic mother gets the easy life.

It was only last November that New Zealand saw convicted repetitive paedophile Douglas McInnes sentenced to only half the sentence available and he had an offending record the size of a book!

Scott is calling for all Judges to start using the law to its full extent and stop wondering how the offenders might feel in prison.

“Society as a whole has had enough of pandering to the criminals” Our politicians make the laws so how about our judges start seeing that they are enforced to their full extent and that our politicians start questioning some of the ludicrous sentences being handed out by to many out of touch Judges
