Islamic Council Regarding Killing of Ayatollah Nimr

Islamic Council Regarding Killing of Ayatollah Nimr

Islamic Council of New Zealand (ICONZ) strongly condemns the execution of the prominent Saudi scholar, human right activist and leading Muslim scholar Ayatollah Nimr Baqir Al-Nimr.

In modern societies where human rights and freedom of speech that includes criticising governments and their policies is the basic tenet of human rights and freedoms, we still battle autocratic regimes who impose their will on their citizens via the “shut up and live the way we say, or we shut you up by the sword” and sentence any opposition by death penalty.

Ayatollah Nimr was a renowned community leader in Saudi Arabia who never incited violence or any activity other than calling his fellow citizens to use WORDS (Dialogue) to attain their basic rights and and preached peaceful means for gaining their civil rights.

The Saudi Regime is openly founding, funding and supporting extremism and violent ideologies such as Wahhabism and terrorist organisations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS throughout the world and the Middle East.

We strongly advocate the cause of human rights and support peaceful means in realizing democratic rights for every nation any where, any time.
