New Zealand Post will tomorrow donate more than 500 Christmas gifts to New Zealand Red Cross for recently arrived refugee families in Wellington.
The gifts are being donated thanks to the more than 2,082 Kiwis who signed up to play New Zealand Post’s popular online Christmas game #nzsecretsanta this year. In total the secret santa community, along with New Zealand Post will donate around 700 gifts to more than 200 new Kiwi families nationwide.
Gifts for families in Auckland, Hamilton, Nelson and Palmerston North have already been delivered, and tomorrow Red Cross will accept gifts for new Kiwi families in the Wellington region.
$1000 was also raised for New Zealand Red Cross on the New Zealand Secret Santa Givealittle page. This cash donation will also be presented to the Refugee Services Team tomorrow.
In addition to gifts and the cash donation, New Zealand Post will give each newly arrived family a $50 voucher to spend on home items.
New Zealand Post Secret Santa spokesperson Rob Holmes said Secret Santa, known as #nzsecretsanta on Twitter, continues to be popular with the online community and gives New Zealand Post the opportunity to put its extensive network to a charitable use at Christmas time.
“The charity component of the game is as important to the online #nzsecretsanta community as it is to New Zealand Post,” Rob Holmes said.
