Groser Must Back Pacific Neighbours in Paris Talks
Minister Tim Groser must up his game at climate change negotiations in Paris, says Greenpeace executive director Russel Norman today, as Groser refused to publically back moves to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
Russel Norman said:
“Groser’s got to up his game in Paris, and show some real leadership. Right now, that leadership is coming from some of the planet’s poorest countries, who have successfully ensured that limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees is still on the table.
“Groser’s so far refused to back this option, which just isn’t good enough. It’s not just a number on some policy document. It could mean our houses don’t get flooded, our air is cleaner, and the future is a little more secure for entire island nations.
“Our neighbours Australia have supported 1.5 degrees. So come on, Tim. It’s your last gig before heading off to Washington. Make sure you’re remembered as climate change minister for the right reasons.”
