Built Environment Community support for People's Climate March

The impact of climate change will be of enormous significance for our built environment and how we live in the future.

Members of Wellington's built environment community are committed to proactively halting the impacts of climate change. But this will not be enough. A collective national effort - led by government - is needed to establish meaningful and effective emission targets and to limit global warming to 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels.

The Architectural Centre, the Wellington Regional Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects, and the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects will all be participating in Saturday's climate march to support action to halt climate change, and to demand strong leadership from the government at the forthcoming Paris talks.

All three organisations have strong commitments to sustainable design, sustainable cities and a sustainable future.

"The Wellington Branch of the NZ Institute of Landscape Architects has an holistic approach to climate change. This approach aims to secure sustainable use of natural resources, development of sustainable communities, and the need for a sustainable, resilient future. To this end we support the call to our government for strong leadership within NZ on climate change as well as at the Paris Climate Change talks." - NZILA, Wellington Branch.

"A sustainable future needs more than lip-service. The Paris talks are vital to making this difference. The Architectural Centre asks the government to be leaders at Paris and at home. We need long term thinking now. We are marching because we need the government to "walk the talk" on climate change." Christine McCarthy, President, Architectural Centre.
