TRANS ON CAMPUS: Transacademia and Transgender Week of Awareness 2015

Trans on Campus are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for transgender and gender variant students and academics coming up in November.

Transacademia is a half-day symposium that gives a chance to trans people in universities and tertiary institutions to present their work, a chance that Trans on Campus suspects is offered less to trans and gender variant academics.

"We hear a lot of anecdotal evidence about how difficult it can be for some trans and gender variant people at university," the group says. "It's common to hear that it's hard to talk about your own experiences as a transgender person in an academic context. We hope that transacademia gives people the chance to speak up about the work they're currently doing, whether that's on queer and trans issues or unrelated topics."

Transacademia will include presentations, skillshares, and workshops, and is open to submissions from academics, undergrad, postgrad, and past students.

Trans on Campus has been active at the University of Auckland since August 2014, and has successfully campaigned on issues such as bathroom access and the university's preferred name system.

The symposium is happening as part of Transgender Week of Awareness, an event co-hosted by Trans on Campus, Rainbow Youth, and GenderBridge. The week runs from the 14th to the 20th of November, with transacademia on the Wednesday the 18th.
