New Green Party proposal sends a signal about gender equality
The Public Service Association (PSA) supports the new proposal from the Green Party, announced by co-leader James Shaw to the CTU conference, that Green MPs in a future cabinet would be gender balanced.
Erin Polaczuk, PSA national secretary, said "Women still struggle to be treated fairly in their workplaces,""Sending a strong signal about the importance of gender equality from Cabinet would be a welcome boost towards the movement for equal pay.
"A cabinet of 50% women would be a big improvement on where we are now, but women's leadership is needed at all levels.
"Women all over the country have been standing up and demanding equal pay."The Green Party's commitment today is another step towards true gender equality," said Erin Polaczuk.
