Sex offender escape renews call for public sex offender register – McVicar

McVicar said SST was renewing its call for publicly available sex offender register so that the eyes and ears of every
member of the public could be utilised in supporting the police and knowing the whereabouts of these despicable
creatures to ensure they were never in a position to harm a child again.
The Sensible Sentencing Trust is outraged that a dangerous paedophile was in a position that enabled him to cut off his
electronic bracelet and abscond so easily.
SST Founder, Garth McVicar, said this case once again exposed the folly of legislation that was repeatedly putting the
lives and well-being of children in jeopardy.
“It is absolutely ludicrous that a criminal like Patrick McGreevy with convictions for sexual offending against children
and multiple other convictions was even in a position to be able to escape.”
McVicar said paedophiles are in a league of their own, “anyone who has been convicted of sexual abuse of a child has
shown what evil predators they are and should never be granted any leniency or opportunity to put another child at
risk.”
“Once again the burden falls on the police to find him and I note they are calling on the public for help in locating
him.”
McVicar said SST was renewing its call for publicly available sex offender register so that the eyes and ears of every
member of the public could be utilised in knowing the whereabouts of these despicable creatures and making sure they
were never in a position to harm a child again.
If this Government is not prepared to treat a child’s safety as its paramount consideration then SST will ultimately
have to take on that responsibility for them and to that end we are committed to an extensive revamp of the SST offender
data base to ensure the public know who is living in their communities and the risk they pose.
McVicar said the overhaul of the data base was well advanced and the organisation would be making a public announcement
in the near future.
“If the Government are not prepared to save our kids from paedophiles SST is committed to doing the job for them. All I
can say at this stage is watch this space!”
