Bunnings strikes continue as Auckland workers walk off the job
After workers from four stores held a strike outside Bunnings head office yesterday, other stores are following suit as workers from Bunnings Botany and Mt Wellington prepare to picket outside the Botany
store at midday today, says FIRST Union Retail and Finance Secretary Maxine Gay.
“Workers across the country are rejecting Bunning’s attempt to hand bosses the power to chop and change start and finish
times without the worker’s agreement.”
“These workers are calling on Bunnings to return to bargaining and settle a fair collective agreement, one that shares
power between bosses and workers.”
“Workers need certainty so they can plan their lives. Insecurity at work has a devastating flow on effect, it can
undermines everything from your family life to your community participation,” says Gay.
“We aren’t going to let this Australian-owned company lock workers into such a one-sided agreement. What Bunnings is
proposing is actually a downgrade on the current agreement.”
Workers will picket outside Bunnings Botany from midday to 2pm today.
