Take Back the Night Dunedin 2015
Rape Crisis Dunedin is hosting their annual Take Back The Night march. On Saturday October 17th. Join the cause and get involved. This march is an opportunity to support survivors. The march will be followed by a rally, which will involve community members speaking and some musical performances. The march will be assembling at the School of Dentistry at 6.45 and departing at 7.00. Following this, the rally will be held in the Octagon at 7.30.
We aim to raise awareness that everyone has the right to walk in public, no matter the time of day, how they dress, what they have consumed, whether accompanied or unaccompanied. For too long, rape myth and the threat of sexual violence have been used to curb people’s freedom of movement in public space, particularly women, other gender and sexual minorities and people of colour. With Take Back the Night we say: the night is ours, public space is ours, we have the right to be here and be safe.
The march is open to anyone of any gender who dreams of a world free of gendered and sexualised violence.
