World animal day - New Zealand animal ambassador appointed

Bob Kerridge has gone global with his recent appointment as a New Zealand Ambassador for World Animal Day, to be celebrated on 4th October, 2015.

World Animal Day started in Italy in 1931 and has since grown to become an International celebration involving almost 100 countries around the globe. Through a variety of animal related activities, humans of all races and creeds acknowledge the value of animals in a common bond, whilst remembering the plight of those who suffer, or are endangered.

“The purpose of World Animal Day is to raise the status of animals so as to improve their welfare around the world”, says Bob Kerridge. “For this one special day the global power of people united in a common cause, that of a love and respect for all animal life, is a powerful force”.

The day falls appropriately on the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of animals and the environment, when SPCA Auckland stages its joyous Blessing of the Animals service at St Matthew in the City at 1.00pm on Sunday 4th October, 2015.
