See me, I am a refugee
Christchurch residents, artists and musicians respond to a humanitarian crisis
Sunday, September 13th, outside the Botanical Gardens (next to Canterbury Museum) from 12pm to 3pm.
“See Me, I am a refugee” is a gathering of community members, parents, artists, musicians and speakers in support of
refugees and in response to their worsening humanitarian crisis.
Parents are invited to bring their children’s unwanted clothes and participate in a live art installation project. The
aim of this project is to provide a powerful visual communication of the plight of refugees; it invites the observers to
put themselves in refugees’ shoes by seeing them through the familiar clothing of their own children and to ask: what if
they were my children?
Visitors, including children, will be able to share their thoughts and responses on our giant sticky notes board, browse
the works of our creative artists and listen to our talented musicians, poets and speakers.
All funds raised will be directed to the Red Cross. Clothes will be sent to charities supporting refugees.
