Children’s Commissioner report highlights continued underfunding of CYF
The Public Service Association (PSA) welcomes the detailed scrutiny of Child, Youth and Family (CYF) in the Children’s Commissioner’s State of Care report.
Kathy Higgins, PSA National Organiser, said "We wouldn’t have the information in this report if these services were delivered by a private company like Serco,"
"We support the report’s recommendations to address the capacity and capability issues across the CYF workforce to support quality social work for some of our most vulnerable children.
"The crucial issue is funding, and this report highlights the years of underfunding that CYF have experienced.
"CYF is one part of a much broader system; greater integration and coordination across similar government agencies like the active approach Amy Adams is taking with family violence would be welcomed.
"The Government must address these issues of underfunding and capability, otherwise there will be no improvement for those most in need," said Kathy Higgins.
