Latest round of Pasifika Whānau Ora funding announced
Latest round of Pasifika Whānau Ora funding announced
Pacific providers throughout the country
will benefit from almost $22 million from the Whānau Ora
funding programme in just over two years, to work with
Pasifika families within their areas of focus, Pasifika
Futures Limited chief executive Mrs Debbie Sorensen
says.
$16.5 million of Core Commissioning Funding will be used by twelve providers to deliver Whānau Ora services to Pacific families throughout New Zealand to strengthen and support Pacific families in achieving their aspirations.
Contracts have also been granted to the value of $206k for smaller Pacific owned and led community based organisations to work with Pacific families to achieve their goals. The Small Grant Fund will allow twelve organisations to participate in the Whānau Ora programme, supporting community healthcare, educational tools, churches and individual development projects.
Additional funding of $4.9 million will further support seven innovative and exciting programmes that will demonstrate success in ensuring Pacific families will be financially independent, live long and healthy lives, be educated, skilled and employed.
Mrs Sorensen said it was encouraging to see the level of interest from individuals and different organisations bidding for funding under the three funding streams provided.
“The available funds were well over subscribed in all three funding streams. We received over 130 applications totalling around $35 million annually for core commissioning and innovation funding and approximately $860k for the small grants fund in comparison to the $10m our organisation receives each year to fund the Whānau Ora Pasifika Futures programme.”
“As the Pacific
commissioning agency for the Whānau Ora programme, we were
impressed with the quality of the submissions and it is
expected the partnerships selected will make a positive
difference to our Pasifika families.”
“The funding
will strengthen our working relationships with Whānau Ora
navigators, who play a critical role as brokers for our
Pasifika families and will support them to continue to
provide the services they offer.”
The funding recipients are required to meet a range of expectations, including annual investment plans and reporting on expenditure and outcomes.
