Pregnancy Centres Are Helping Abortion Numbers to
Decline
The decline of reported induced abortions in
New Zealand has been greeted warmly by the pro-life,
pro-family organisation, Family Life International
NZ.
Reported induced abortions have declined steadily for the last eight years, down to 13,137 in 2014. The highest number reported was in 2003 - a high of 18,511.
"It is wonderful to see such a massive decline year-on-year" said Dame Colleen Bayer, the organisation's National Director. "This can only be a good thing for a families, for women and for children."
She believes the decline is due to a number of factors including better education about fetal development; the availability of ultrasound and pre-natal images; the willingness of people to speak up about the realities of abortion on the street, at places of education and in the work place; and access to life-affirming pregnancy centres.
"The existence of life-affirming pregnancy centres, such as our own Family Life Pregnancy Centres, are vital in showing women that no obstacle is too big to overcome in order to bring their child to birth" Bayer explained.
“Women often seek an abortion because they feel they have no other choice. But with support, friendship and guidance we offer her options and hope."
"We are there for her as long as she needs us, both during the pregnancy and afterwards" said Dame Bayer.
She also noted that 13,137 are still too many abortions. "There are women suffering out there. I want them to know there is hope."
