The Taxpayers’ Union is highlighting comments by Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei that the Party is adamant the Resource Management Act isn't the cause of expensive homes, despite the OECD’s conclusion to the contrary. Taxpayers’ Union Executive Director, Jordan Williams, says:
“The Greens claim to be an evidence-based party when it suits them, yet this idea is the economic equivalent to climate change denial. Despite every credible economic expert pointing to the RMA and red-tape as one of the primary reasons for the housing shortage, Ms Turei is keeping her head firmly in the sand."
“While the baby boomers and political classes fluff about to protect the status quo, it is my generation who are by and large locked out of home ownership thanks to the RMA’s regulatory tax."
“Allowing people to build up, out, and be the master of their own property isn’t about trashing the environment. It is about allowing our cities to grow and develop so that we can all get a fair go and onto the housing ladder."
